The Origin Story
In 2022, our family suffered an unimaginable loss. My husband passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at just 38 years old. The weeks and months that followed were some of the hardest of my life. I found myself navigating grief while also stepping into the role of a solo mom for our 8-year-old son.
After his death, a dear friend organized a meal train. Home-cooked food arrived at our doorstep three nights a week. It was an incredible gift. After long evenings at soccer practice, we’d come home to a cooler waiting on the porch, filled with warm dinner made by caring hands. Those meals gave us breathing room, a little pocket of ease in the middle of overwhelming change.
Food carries incredible power. The experience made me wonder: what if making dinner didn’t have to be a solo responsibility? Rather than individual families struggling alone, what if we shared the work of feeding one another? And not only in times of tragedy, but in everyday life.
That is the hope for Supper Commons. That we can share food, have fun, and find community.
